Freedom From compulsion to Think

Today during satsang, I got this understanding - One aspect of Freedom is to be free from the compulsion to think. We all have thoughts come to our mind. But once a thought came into our mind, we are pulled away by that thought like a flowing stream. There is an underlying compulsion to follow the thought. The compulsion to follow the thought arise from our expectations, cravings and aversions. For eg: if you have an expectation that you should be nice to others, whenever a thought that someone may think other wise arises in your mind, your mind catches on to that thought and will try to either prove it or disprove it. Or it will either feel the pain or comfort based on whether the thought is aligned with your expectations, cravings and aversions or vice versa.

True freedom is the freedom to stay away from this compulsive thinking. Once your awareness raise to the point where you can see this compulsive tendency of the mind, you can actually prevent your mind from attaching to the passing thoughts. Once you are able to do it, you will notice that it brings an easness in your life. Gradually(or suddenly) the compulsion to think will drop and peace will become your natural state. Afterall the compulsion to think is painful, unless you relish being in that state. In other words, the freedom from compulsion to think is nothing but the surrender to what is.....

May you achieve the ability to free yourself from the compulsion to think....
