"I am not me"
Recently I have been watching a TV serial about Lord Krishna temple in Guruvayoor. In one of the episode, Lord Krishna gave instruction to one of his devotees to imagine that "I am not me" and that is the end of all problems. If you don't contemplate, then these words does not mean anything.
But, the moment you start think about them, a subtle, deeper meaning will appear. " I am not me" - What does that mean? Who is "I am" and who is "me"? If you ponder over these questions, then some thing will become more clear. When does the thought or feeling "I am" arises? Since you woke up in the morning, till you go to sleep, there is always an underlying feeling that "I am", that I exist. This is a very strong feeling. Can you ever feel that you don't exist? In all the waking and dreaming consciousness, the feeling of I exist. Once the feeling "I am" arises and then comes the feeling "I am so & so" and the entire bondage follows. It is like a wearing a garment. Now, whom does that "I am" feeling comes to? There must be someone existing to have this feeling right? Countless people have said this and it is easy for you to see as well. All you need is the attention at the right place.
So the end point is that "I am" and "me" are not the same. " I am" is associated with all impressions and thoughts, but "me" is not that. So whatever happens in "I am" is not "me"...
Looks like crazy stuff..Right... :)
As Gurudev said "Rejoice without conflict - Conflict is only in the "I am" and not in "me". When you are with "me", there is no conflicts and only rejoice...
Love.....
