"Pathi Vratha"

Pathi-Vratha Dharma - One of the most debated aspects of Hindu Dharma. It is interpreted as the duty of the wife to be devoted to her husband, inspite of whatever he does. Feminists argue that this is not right. Every man wants a "Pathi Vratha" as his wife. However the true meaning of Pathi Vratha is different.

Pathi Vratha is most misunderstood concept. It is actually, not imposed upon the women as the society came to believe. But, it is rather a deeper single point devotion to the divine, which will help the person achieve the highest levels of spiritual enlightenment. In the case of Pathi Vratha, the image of God turned out to be the husband. It is very difficult for the normal human beings to get enlightened, by praying to unseen god. When you focus your attention 100% to one subject, your mind get so focused that it get cleared of all the mental impressions. Same logic as the devotion to God or to Guru. So whether a wife is Pathi Vratha or not is nothing to do with her husband. It is one of the ways to reach the divine, while integrating her family life with it. In that matter, it is easier for woman to achieve enlightnment through this method.

So in a way a true devotee is Pathi Vratha. His or her partner is God himself. He or she sees no other pleasure than the happiness and well being of God, which in turn means happiness and well being of the entire universe. In other words, that means selfless service to the humanity.

Are you a "Pathi Vratha"?...

Love Always...

Jai Gurudev
